The Odds Of Winning On Lucky Blackjack

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

There are many different variants of the game of blackjack and every variation has its own rules and winning odds.

Lucky Blackjack is one of those variations of Blackjack that it’s fun, thrilling and features great betting payouts.

As opposed to classic Blackjack where you’re aiming to beat the dealer by creating a hand closest to 21 and higher than the dealer’s hand, in Lucky Blackjack you’re simply betting on the dealer’s hand value.

In Lucky Blackjack the objective of the game is to bet on the total final value of the dealer’s hand.

You are not dealt any cards in Lucky Black jack. Players can only place a wager on the dealer’s hand value and the dealer will play until he stands, hits 21 or he’s busted.

Lucky Blackjack features 7 different hand values that you can bet on: 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, Bust and Blackjack.

You will noticed that the lowest point value you can bet on is 17. This has to do with the casino rules whereby the dealer must draw to 16 and Stand on all 17′s – hard and soft.

Point Values and Odds

Now that we’ve covered the basic rules of the game, let’s take a look at the probabilities of each point value.

In order to have a better understanding of the winning probabilities of each of these seven possible outcomes, we need to analyze the probability of the dealer having each of these final hand values.

If you were to bet on the dealer getting a natural Black jack hand, the chances of winning would be 4.82% but if you were to bet on the dealer actually building a hand of 21 in value, the odds of winning would be 7.36%

Now, betting on the dealer having a final point value hand of 20 has a remarkable 17.59% odds of winning.

This bet is the one that offers the highest probability of winning in Lucky Blackjack.

Another options is betting on 19. When you bet on the dealer having a final point value of 19, the odds of winning is 13.48% but if players bet on 18, then the probability goes up to 13.81%.

And lastly, a bet on the dealer having a final point value of 17 features a higher 14.58% probability of winning.

As we mentioned before, there is no option to bet on the dealer drawing 16 but it’s important to note that the odds of the dealer getting a hand value of 16 (and having to Hit) are 28.36%

The reason why we mentioned the odds of the dealer drawing 16 is because he has to Hit on 16 and the odds of the dealer going Bust after hitting on 16 are a massive 42.08%.

These two last facts will definitely be helpful in deciding the attractiveness of betting on Bust.

In conclusion, Lucky Black jack is a fast-paced variation that features fantastic fun and winning opportunities. Knowing the odds of drawing each hand can prove to be very handy when deciding what to bet on and hopefully will help you win more bets.

Blackjack Variants And The House’s Edge

Friday, January 27th, 2012

Blackjack is the most widely played casino game in the world as the mix of skill and chance together with its simplicity appeals to gamblers.

The aim of the game is the same regardless of the rules in place, that is you have to reach a total of twenty-one without going over, or busting as it is called.

Even though the aim of Blackjack is the same across different variations, the version of the game that you play can change the advantage that the house has over you.

While there is no such thing as a perfect Blackjack strategy, there is a basic strategy that can be used that can reduce the house’s advantage to less than 1%, which is another reason the game is so popular.

In response most casinos feature several Blackjack variants that have a higher casino edge and helps them increase their revenue from this game.

The first variation is the number of decks used at one time. Whilst not very common, some online casinos offer a single deck blackjack game.

This popular Blackjack game features a house edge of just 0.17%

The disadvantage of this blackjack variation is that you will generally find a number of additional rules that help the house.

In comparison using four decks of cards in Blackjack will give the casino an advantage of 0.6%. And if you’re playing the variation with 8 decks of cards, which is the most common one, the house edge goes up to 0.66%.

A common rule in place in most casinos is that the player will only receive one extra card when they split a pair of aces.

The reason for this is that if you were allowed to Hit after splitting Aces, this would effectively lower the casino edge by 0.13%. If you consider that the casino’s edge is only 1% then this is a meaningful reduction.

However, most online casinos allow a player to “double-down” on a split pair, other than aces, even though this gives a 0.12% advantage to the player.

The largest variation will come when players get a natural blackjack.

On average you can expect to hit a natural blackjack in 4.8% of hands. So if we deviate from a typical 3:2 payout for a natural blackjack hand, this puts the odds on the casino’s side.

If you’re playing a blackjack game where the payout is 6:5 then you should know that this reduces your edge by 1.4%. Furthermore, some casinos that payout only at 1:1 have a huge advantage of 2.3%.

Before you start playing blackjack for real money, it is advisable to first have a look at rules of the blackjack version you want to play and check the edge that the casino has over you.

The best table would be one that plays four decks, makes the dealer stand on soft-17, offers late surrender, allows you to double after a split, allows you to double any two cards and pays out 3:2 on Blackjack. If you find one that does this, please let me know!
