Poker Fun Attracts Poker Fish

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

It is not uncommon to see professionals regularly playing medium stakes adopt the sulky bully persona. With the somber shades-and-cap, unsmiling, untalkative Tulkinghorn image you are not only likely to attract other and better skilled shadow-warriors, but, looking like a scarecrow, you are likely also to scare away those players who would otherwise constitute the bulk of your overall income.

For the amateur will, for the most part, prefer a table where he thinks he can have a good time, whether he wins or looses. For him the game is not a way of making a living, but quality time. The sociable, successful businessman happy to get out of the office or to have a bit of fun before the foreign meeting, the brilliant computer scientist who likes once in a while to play a real game as opposed to online poker: these people, cruising around the room, are looking for a table where players are relaxed and friendly. They will listen for laughter and scan smiles before they at all try to observe the players’ actual poker skills, and will finally go for those tables where people seem to enjoy themselves.

For a player intending to earn a regular income, it is important to be able to cater to these basic desires of the average amateur. Each amateur will not loose much, but if you entice a constant stream of them you will constantly gain. Moreover, an amateur is likely to stay longer at a table, dare more, bet higher, and loose more with a good will if they are having a good time.

At a table where nobody initiates any human contact and there is no way to see what the opponents look like behind their cases of armor nothing keeps the amateur to leave as soon as they lose once, never to return.

On the other hand, a good conversation and a sense of humor combined with a slightly flattering play which keeps the amateur trusting he has a chance will increase the chances of that player coming back for more next time, perhaps even specifically seeking out your table. Since they do not play for the money or the excitement of high stakes, they will not regret as much having lost to an entertaining player.

Keep your weaker opponents in a good mood and you will keep up their good hopes, believing that luck may still take their side. Good time and occasional “luck” may turn them into regular players and into regular income and attract still more amateurs. But a show of cold indifference will only make them disgusted with themselves or the table or both.

Top professionals carefully invent their poker persona. Their key to success lies not only in superior technique but often in the ability to create, through persona and ability to manipulate the game cleverly, situations which project a positive experience for their unsuspecting prey. They make sure that those who are about to loose salute them.

Professional Poker Tools – Heads Up Displays

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

A heads up display, or HUD, is a tool used by online poker players to display statistics on other players at the table directly around their name. To the skilled professional this tool is indispensable. When professionals play poker online they often play several tables at a time. Many players will play 4-16 tables at once across several monitors. When you are playing this many tables and hands at a time it is virtually impossible to keep track of the playing style of every opponent at the table. The HUD can help you to keep track of who plays how by just glancing at their stats before you act. So how does it work?

The hand histories for every hand that you play online are stored on your hard drive. These hands can then be imported into a tracking software and compiled into a database. The HUD will then read this database along with the current hand histories for live tables and display the stats directly on the table to help poker players make quick decisions based on the playing style and weaknesses of their opponents without having to actually watch every hand closely. So how is this beneficial in actual play?

We all know that watching how our opponents play closely will help us exploit their weaknesses. When you use a HUD in conjunction with a datamining software program you can get a huge advantage over your opponents. You can move from table to table and always know exactly how your opponents play without spending too much time studying them in real time. Your software will do it for you. Some players fold the flop 60% of the time but constantly check raise the turn. If you see this on a players stats, and they call the flop, you can often expect a checkraise on the turn. This may be a good time to check behind with a mediocre hand and save two bets. Without a HUD you would have to watch this player closely for thousands of hands to realize that this is their standard play when they make a big hand. Other players will try to run over any table they sit down at and raise 50% of the time before the flop. You will probably pick up on this after a few orbits even if you’re playing 8 table or more, but with a HUD you’ll know what you’re dealing with before the first hand is even dealt.

Another useful tool that your HUD will afford you is that it will show you your opponents hole cards after the hand is over if they go to showdown. Many players will muck their hand so that you can’t see it but the HUD will still pick up the data. It’s helpful to know what a player will call a river bet with. This alone will help you value bet the river against players who will showdown weak hands.

Anyone playing poker online should be using a heads up display. The professionals are using them, shouldn’t you?

Winning Poker Through Game Selection With A Table Scanner

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Let us think for a moment that everyone can play perfect poker. With that, the game would be finished in an instant and every one would go home with empty pockets. If that is the case, we can declare the house as the winner. Now, if you believe that you are the tenth greatest poker player in the world, you are in pretty good shape. However, if the other 9 players at your table happen to rank through 9, you aren’t looking so good anymore. This is the particular scenario where you can utilize table selection. You will profit only when other players make mistakes. By using table selection, you can join a poker game wherein the other players tend to make many mistakes. The only problem now for you is the overwhelming number of online poker rooms. With so many players online at a given time, finding the best available table would become a bit of a hassle. This is where a table scanner can help. So what exactly is a table scanner?

The table scanner scans the tables at the limit and game type that you think is worth playing on any online room and takes data of every single player. The player’s statistics would then be ranked using the tracking software installed on your computer along with any data that you have collected. A table would be scored according to the collective player’s quality. With the use of table scanners, you could easily classify the tables from various online poker gaming rooms and limits to find the best tables. Table Selection with Online Poker Table Scanners

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

Assuming that every player plays perfect poker, the game would be over in matter of minutes and everyone would lose. In this case, the house would be declared as the winner. If you consider yourself as the tenth greatest poker player in the world, you will be doing great in nearly every game. However, if the other nine players on the table are the other best nine, suddenly you will become the worst poker player at your table. This is where you can use the table selection. You will make money when the other players make some mistakes. It means that you should participate in a game where the players make the most mistakes. However, due to great number of online poker rooms and so many busy tables going at any given moment how in the world are you going to find the best available game? The answer is through a table scanner. What then is a table scanner?

A table scanner is used to find the very best poker games online by professional poker players to increase their profits. This computer program comes with a monthly charge but it is worth every dime in the increase of your earnings that you will take by participating only on the good online poker. How then does this useful poker tool work?

The function of the table scanner is to scan the tables at the game type that you choose and at the limits you choose at any online card room and take note of every single player at that table. A particular table would be scored according to the quality of players currently sitting at that table. Using the table scanner, you can now group the tables from different online poker rooms, limits and games to see the good tables. Most of the software lets you make a buddy list so that you could easily determine if there is anyone available online who could make your poker day great. This way, you could make use of your playing time profiting from those players that you know who are very weak.

The table selection software allows a free evaluation period. By using the free trial software, you can assess the table scanner that fits your needs and especially your budget. However, if you are only playing $0.50 up to $1 limit hold’em for only a few hours per week, there is no reason for you to purchase the software that would make you pay $50 every month.

Professional Poker Tools – Table Scanners

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

If everyone played perfect poker, eventually everyone would go broke and the game would be over. In this scenario the house is the only winner. If you are the tenth best poker player in the world you should do pretty well for yourself. But what if the other nine players at your table were ranked one through nine? Now you are the worst player in your particular game. This is where table selection comes into play. You only make money when other players make mistakes. This means that you should seek out and play in games with players that make the most mistakes. But with so many poker rooms online, and so many tables going at any give time how are you supposed to find the very best games? The answer is to use a table scanner. So what is a table scanner?

A poker table scanner is a tool used by professional poker players to find the very best games online to maximize their profits. This software usually comes with a monthly fee, but it is well worth it in the increase in profits you will make by playing in only the best games. So how does this software work?

The table scanner will scan all the tables at the limits and game type that you choose at any online card room that you play at and record every player at every table. These players are then called up in your tracking software database and their stats populate the table. These stats are graded and given a score. The table is then given a score based on the quality of the individual players combined into a a single number. You can then sort the tables from several poker rooms, limits, and games to find the most profitable tables at any given time. Most programs available also allow you to build a buddy list so that you can easily see if anyone on your fishy list is online. It is often hugely profitable to sit at a table for the sole reason to exploit one player that you know to be especially weak.

Most table selection tools give you a free trial period. Use this free trial to find the table scanner that works best for you and fits into your budget. If you’re playing $0.50/$1 limit hold’em for a few hours a week, it doesn’t make any sense for you to pay $50 every month for a piece of software.

If you are not practicing any type of game selection currently you should see a significant increase in your win rate even in a very short period of time.

The Many Benefits of Datamining Online Poker Tables

Friday, August 7th, 2009

Try to imagine you sitting down in a poker game with 9 different and complete strangers and instantly knowing what their game plan is. Imagine that you have knowledge of them equal to really sitting with them for hundreds of hours while carefully studying their moves.  This is what the dataminers will let you do. If this program is going to be used alongside with the heads up display and other tracking programs like poker tracker, you can have scores of data from every online poker player flashed right at your computer screen. How does it work then?

The dataminers will operate tables for you whenever you are away from your computer and will take note of every single action that the players at the specific tables make. Your dataminer would be watching at least 20 tables even if you are sleeping. The data recorded is then imported into a special database and other information such as heads up display that are directly displayed on your online poker table. The question now is why is it so important to have data on every online player?

You could  play 30 hands or so against and opponent an think you know everything about them.. You know that they haven’t played a hand yet so it means that they are a tight player right? The answer is perhaps. Having 30 hands are better than having 0 but what do you think it tells you? Perhaps the player doesn’t have any good cards worth playing just yet. You can easily say that the sample is very small.

If you have been datamining all week long, you will probably have a few thousand hands worth of data. The data that you have may be able to tell you that the player that you have your eyes on may not be as tight as you first thought and not a good candidate to steal from. If you have a larger amount of data, it will be more accurate. With the use of datamining you will have good information on every online poker player that you come across.

Datamining is also very helpful for you if you use a poker table scanner for table selection. Having a lot of information on almost everyone on the poker table, you will definitely benefit in any available poker games online.

Even the professionals have turned to datamining and would probably know a lot about you. If that is the case, wouldn’t it be nice if you have the same benefit?

Finding The Best Online Poker Games

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Playing poker at any time of the day from anywhere in the world is easier than ever.  Whenever you get the urge you can sit down and play poker online.  There is always a game going somewhere.  The question is, “is there a good game going?”  If you’re just sitting at the first table that becomes available, you’re probably costing yourself money.

If all men are created equal, as the US constitution states, the question rises whether all poker players are created equal.  The answer is an astounding NO!  This also means that all poker games are not created equal.  As a poker player, your bottom line will depend in part on finding and sitting in only the best, most profitable games.  So how do we find these good games?

If you use a tracking program to track your online play, then table selection should be fairly easy for you.  You simply find games with a lot of people seeing the flop, very few preflop raises, and general weak and passive play.  These are the games that you can dominate with tight aggressive play.  If you play at non peak hours or play very high limits, this might not be an option for you.  There may not be any such games going where you’re ready to sit and play.  This is a situation where your buddy list and the notes that you keep on other players is your best guide.

When simple table averages fail to turn up outstanding tables for you to sit at, its may be time to head over to your buddy list.  Finding and isolating one or two very weak players at a table can earn you an easy living.  If you’re lucky enough to get position on these players you should probably stay at the table until they leave or go bust.  The important thing to remember is to keep track of what kind of “fishy” your dealing with.  Against a calling station you will play differently than if you had a weak tight player.  Just having a weak player on your buddy list may not be enough.  Keeping good notes on these weak players should save you some time in figuring out information that you should already know.

Good table selection skills can easily make a losing poker player into a winning player.  If that is true, and you are a winning player, imagine what good table selection can do for your bottom line at the end of the day, month, or year.

Table Selection – Increase Your Poker Income

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

With the easy access to online poker, anyone can sit down in front if their computer and play for anywhere anytime.  There is virtually always a game going somewhere at some online poker site.  The trick is to find and play in only the best games.  This may mean doing some searching instead of just sitting in the first seat that opens up.

Its said that all men are created equal.  This is a point that is debatable at best, but one thing is for sure.  All poker players are not created equal and in turn all poker games are not created equal.  Playing in only the very best games available can hugely increase a serious poker players profits at the end of the day.  So how do we determine which games are “good”?

Looking for good games online is much easier than in a casino or card room. This is especially true if you are not a regular in said casino.  Finding quality games online can be as easy as looking at table averages if you use stat tracking software like poker tracker.  Games with low preflop raise percentages and a high percentage of players seeing the flop generally means you have found a loose passive table.  These tables are gold.  At some limits and/or times of day though, these wonderful games are hard to come by.  This is when you need a more in depth analysis of the table.  Buddy lists and player notes come in handy in this situation.

If you do find yourself in a situation where there isn’t a table just screaming at you to sit down and walk away with the money, its time to seek out specific players.  Its often right to sit down with seven very good players and one horrible player.  If you can find such a player it may be profitable to isolate that player every chance you get until they go bust and leave.  That’s probably your que to leave as well.  Be sure that you know exactly what kind of “bad player” your dealing with though.  Are they showdown prone and will call you down with any flimsy hand.  If so you can make a living by value betting bottom pair all day long.  If you have a weak tight player who is easily run over raising all day long may be the best path.  If you keep good notes while you play you should always have a good idea of who your dealing with and how to exploit their weaknesses.

If table selection is not a part of your online poker career it’s probably time to rethink your approach.  Even if you’re a winning poker player, there is no reason to not make more.  Keeping good notes, tracking yourself and your opponents, keeping a buddy list, and seeking out high quality games can make a huge impact on your bottom line.

Online Poker Table Selection – Finding and Playing in the Best Games

Monday, July 20th, 2009

It’s easy to sit down at your computer and play online poker. You can play any time of the day from virtually anywhere in the world. The quickest way to get into a game is to join the waiting list and start playing at whatever table becomes available first. If this is what you’re doing, you’re probably costing yourself a fair bit of money.

The United States Constitution says that all men are created equal. I don’t know if that is true, but I can tell that the same is definitely NOT true of all poker games. There are good games and there are bad games, and playing only in the very good ones can have a huge impact on your bottom line. So how do we find these hidden gold mines?

One way is to look at table averages. This may mean finding games with a high number of people seeing the flop, very few preflop raises, or generally loose, passive play. Its easy to see table data if you play online and use any type of tracking software. Live games can be more difficult to gauge, but a close eye for an orbit or two should give you the information that you need. These loose passive games can be hard to find at times and can be nearly impossible to find at some limits. If you find yourself in this situation it may mean that you have to have a more specific approach to find the best games to play in. This is where your buddy / fishy lists and notes come into play.

Often the most profitable thing to do is find one specific player that you know plays quite poorly and exploit their well known weaknesses over and over. This may well mean sitting at a table that otherwise looks like a tough table. If you can get position on an extremely weak player you may well make a living by just isolating that player every chance that you get. If the player is unable to fold, you may want to raise with any hand with showdown value in an attempt to isolate their weaker hand. If they tend to raise too much with weak hands you probably have a good reason to re raise and isolate them with position. If you want to hunt down specific players you need to make sure to keep detailed notes and a list of those players that you want to seek out.

If you are not practicing any type of table selection, do not have a buddy/fishy list, and are not keeping notes on your opponents, you will probably find that your win rate will significantly improve once you start implementing these simple yet effective techniques.
