Winning At Online Poker

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

Playing online poker is one of the hottest things. Online poker has grown in popularity over the past few years. With the growing popularity of it elsewhere, people love the ease that online poker has to offer. There are many different ways you can play online poker, and a variety of sites to do so on.

Online poker can be played in three main ways. The majority of people want to play for money, and this is not the easiest thing to find. A lot of people play for free to get practice or just to have fun. Others play to win tokens or points and redeem prizes.

Online poker for money is hard to find. Since poker is a form of gambling, it is regulated, and in some areas, it is illegal to play online for money. There are a lot of overseas websites that have popped up to facilitate online poker playing for money all over the world. There is the capability to win a lot of money playing online poker.

Online poker is also played for a variety of prizes. Some of the prizes may just be little things like a gift card, or an entrance into a sweepstakes. Other sites may offer bigger prizes, like an entry into a coveted poker tournament in real life. For people that like to gamble for something, but don’t want to lose money, this is a great way to do so. This is a safe option that still provides a level of competition.

Another option for online poker is playing it for fun. With no money involved, you can play to affect your game, and practice things you may have never risked if money was involved. This is a way for poker players to practice daily or new players to truly understand the game. Whatever it may be, online poker can be fun whether you are playing for money or not.

It is very important with online poker, as with any type of gambling to know when to stop or if you have a problem. When you gamble, and you are putting forward money, you should always be using money that you are okay loosing. If you are gambling with the mortgage payment or the car payment, there is a problem, and you need help. Gambling was created as a fun activity and there are very few people that make a living out of doing it.

If you think you have a gambling problem, or you know your online poker is ruining you, there are many places where you can seek help. Gambling, as with any other vice, can be addictive, and can ruin lives. It is important to know when to stop.

Online poker can be a lot of fun if you play it right. Whether you want to play for money, prizes, or fun, there is a site for you. Be sure to gamble safely and smartly when playing poker, don’t risk something you shouldn’t. Gambling is about having fun.

Learning The Art Of Bluffing

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Bluffing is one technique that if applied in the right manner can win you the pot regardless the type of hand you are holding. Bluffing is not very easy to master that every poker player can be trained to bluff successfully; it is a special skill that can be practiced and applied only by a few players. Bluffing is the art of lying and falsely convincing your opponents that you have hands contrary to the stakes you are placing.

Bluffing without giving a single clue of what hand you are actually holding would win you huge amounts turning the game favorable and easy for you to acquire the pot. In order to bluff without getting caught you should know when and how to bluff. Choosing the right time to bluff will help you win the pot even if you have a weak hand.

Bluffing is not a technique that can be carried on every day or in every game. It is a technique that needs to be adopted sparingly. The frequency of bluffing should be limited hence even if you are very good at bluffing frequent bluffing may raise suspicion among your opponents and you would be easily caught in the act.

You should be aware of the situation in which you should be bluffing; often the best time to bluff is during the early rounds of betting where the stakes are not so high and there are lesser risks involved. You should be very much aware of the situation in which you’re going to bluff and try your luck bluffing if your opponents are having weaker or not so strong hands.

While bluffing makes sure that your expressions are not obvious and would reveal that your trick. If you are suspected of bluffing then your opponents would check your hand by calling which eventually will loose you your staked poker chip sets. To be a good bluffer you should stake considerable amount, if you sense your opponents have got weak hands, by staking about four times more than the big blind weaker opponents would definitely leave the game hence providing you the opportunity to be the final winner of the pot.

Each and every move you make and the expression you show up should be calculated so that you wouldn’t even provide the slightest information for being suspected by your opponents. While you are bluffing it is ideal to stake higher amounts so that your opponents would be reluctant to risk that much amount and hence would stay away from your path by folding their hands and let you win the pot.

Your bluff should not be too large and it would be ideal to restrict to four times the big blind so that even if someone calls, you wouldn’t have to incur huge losses. Poker players who bluff occasionally are better players and can earn huge profit than those who bluff very frequently.

Those who are experts in bluffing can never be even hinted upon and hence would be hard to determine whether they are actually bluffing, such players even if they seem to bluff at times may not be actually bluffing since they know very well to act and maintain the right expressions to confuse the opponents and would have the ability to convince them through their tell that they actually hold good hands.

2010 WSOP Tournament Of Champions

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Poker has come to be one of the best games in the world, thus deserving an all-star event to determine the best player. The World Series Of Poker, or World Series Of Poker for short, has set up this tournament with every intention of granting one million dollars to the winner of the 2010 World Series Of Poker TOC; being held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in stunning Las Vegas, Nevada, during the 41st Annual World Series Of Poker.

At a press conference, HIE Vice President Ty Stewart expressed his happiness of their ability to make a revamped poker game that could incorporate millions of fans around the world. He went on to explain that the opinions of several players have helped the idea evolve. He, as well as fans and players, hope that the tournament will be here for good.

Only 27 participants will play in the freeroll poker invitational, and seven of them will be dropped after the public votes on their favorite. Voting opened March 15, 2010 and continues until June 15, 2010 precisely at midnight. To qualify, each player must be a WSOP bracelet-holder. Any living bracelet-holder is eligible, and currently there are 521 players with eligibility. With three positions already guaranteed because previous WSOP TOC winners receive automatic entry, the reigning WSOP champ for both America and Europe get seats at the table, as well. That means that this year Mike Sexton, Barry Shulman, Joe Cada, Mike Matusow, and Annie Duke make up five out of the 27 players for the event.

TOC visitor Annie Duke feels that it is an honor to be part of tournaments, just like the TOC. She has been cited happily telling that winning the TOC was one moment in her poker career that she will never forget. She is just one of a few participants that are ecstatic about World Series Of Pokers involvement in hosting this event. Following the count of the votes and the announcement of the 20 participants that will move on, play will begin on June 27, 2010 at the Rio. Once it comes down to the final nine, they will be back on July 4, 2010 to try and claim their part of $1,000,000 and the 2010 World Series Of Poker Tournament of Champions Champion title.

People who do not make it this time are able to try again next year. Also, a final total of 57 sought-after gold bracelets are up for grabs this year, the same as last year. WSOP is the richest, biggest, and most exclusive gaming event. It has already granted over a billion dollars in prizes and bracelets, which is known worldwide as the sport’s top reward. If you’ve got the expertise, the time, and the poker face; why not try for your seat in the next World Series Of Poker tournament?

Holdem Poker Strategies

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Three main Texas Holdem poker Strategies that a beginner can use. The first one is try to play with other people’s money. Second, is to be smarter about entering a pot. Last, always make sure the pot odds are in your favor before committing to a big pot. Clarification of these three strategies are below.

First, if you are able to win a little money early or you are playing on a bonus you have received from the poker site this is the best way to go because you are risking little to no money of your own. With less stress on playing because of less financial risk a player can be more aggressive at the tables. Try to work up the ladder, starting from low-limit games to build up your poker bankroll. Players seem to play a lot better when they are up or playing on a bonus that is not directly out of their pockets.

Second, analyze your reasons for entering a pot because a bad Texas Holdem poker strategy often has players throwing money in round after round without a good reason. Weigh your options of winning the hand before entering the pot and a good rule of thumb is to be sure you have the best hand to call a raise. You don’t always have to have the best hand to raise, but you should be very confident of the best hand if you’re going to call a raise. Also, be careful about your bluffs. There are some players who can bluff and win, but bluffing to much is not a good strategy.

The next strategy is you should be aware of your pot odds. A poker player can play a little looser if the pots odds are in your favor. Pot odds are harder to explain in an article of this size, but there are many poker books and websites that can help you with this. Remember that the more you study these pot odds, the better you will be able to reference them naturally or instinctively.

Lastly, you need to use your instincts. There is a certain amount of luck in poker and it cannot be accounted for. So when in doubt trust your instincts when playing and play from the gut in times when you’re not sure of your opponent’s hands.

Things to Consider in Poker Sites

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

With the growing number of US poker sites, it is becoming more and more important for online poker players to know some things before they start playing. It is important to know how money will be exchanged before, during and after a game is played online. Internet safety is also a concern these days. The coupled effect of Internet safety and the growing number of online poker sites can prove detrimental to beginners since lot of money is involved in these games.

There are many poker sites for US players. There are also as many scammers in the fray. Since the overly presence of scam on the Internet, safety becomes an important consideration when you are selecting an online poker site. Since many money transactions occur on a poker site, it is important to check all safety aspects before selecting a site. Make sure the website you select is a secure site. On a secure site, financial information that you share will not be transmitted in a manner that some unscrupulous hacker will be able to access it.

Many poker players online are keen to make money while they have fun with the game. When researching poker sites for US players, another factor to consider is the type of odds that will be present when you play a game. Online poker can be great fun to play as well as a great way to make quick money. All US poker sites offer information on the odds they present in poker games. You can access this information for different sites and compare them before choosing an online poker site. If a site does not have any information on the odds, you will be better off by staying away from it.

A lot of money is involved in poker games, you will also want to consider the betting limits before you finally choose a site. Most poker players online set an amount that they wish to spend on the game. A lot sites have a betting limit that is already set. If you have already decided on the amount that you will put into the game, you will have to search sites, which match this amount.

You should check with friends about the various online poker sites. With the number of sites on the rise, determining the authenticity of each site can sometimes be a little tedious process. It is also worthwhile to spend time researching the various US poker sites before you finally choose one since it will pay off in the long run.

Playing Seven Card Poker Stud

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

There are a lot of variations in poker and the seven card stud is one among the popular poker variation. The seven card stud is played in two ways hi card stud and hi-low card stud. In hi-low card stud the pot containing the staked poker chips are divided into two or shared between the highest hand and the lowest hand. In hi card stud the winner is determined according to the highest hand.

In the seven card stud poker the players are dealt with two facedown cards, id and four faces up cards called cank. Round of betting with poker chips sets is conducted in each round when the faces up cards are dealt. The player form hands out of the dealt cards and the highest hand wins the pot.

A final face down card is dealt once all the face up cards are dealt and the final round of betting with clay poker chips is decided among the players and the players who are still in the game are ready for a showdown which decides the winner by comparing their hands and the highest hand wins the pot.

The hand ranking is same as any of the other poker variation and like in other poker games the royal flush is the highest hand and the royal flush is preceded by Straight Flush, Four of a Kind, Full House, Three of a Kind, Two Pair, One Pair, and High Card. With a royal flush you can stake your poker chip sets confidently.

In seven card stud a total of seven cards are dealt. The seven cards include two face down card after which four faces up cards are dealt and finally one single face down card is dealt in the finishing round of betting hence a total of seven cards are dealt. The betting begins in the third round where you start betting your chip sets from your chip cases in each phase.

The six rounds that are played in seven card stud poker include Third Street, Fourth Street, Fifth Street, Sixth Street, the river, and the showdown. In seven card stud poker you have to stake a minimum amount which is considered as an entry fee called the ante. Betting usually begins in the third stage and continues there after.

The players of the game tries to make the best hand they can and if they feel they have chances of winning, would stake more of their poker chip sets in all the rounds of betting and focus to win the pot and those players who carry their stakes until the show down would win through the game if they have the highest hand on comparing with each other. The players reveal their set of five cards which is at the end of the game and the betting rounds compared to determine the winner of the pot.

This variation of poker closely resembles the popular poker variation Texas Holdem and is found in most of the casinos. This variation as usual is played with poker chips and has also various betting rounds they do have slight differences like the number of betting rounds, the number of cards dealt in various betting rounds etc.

Tony Shaunber spends much of his liesure time playing the game of poker. He can always be spotted at local poker tournaments and likes playing with nothing but quality brands of clay chips at the games. Tony is constantly looking on the internet for high end quality poker chip sets at reasonable prices.

When to Stand up and Walk Away

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

We often regret having prolonged the game (to the private glee, we feel, of a few players who led us on). It would have been better, we always realize too late, to have left too early. If we had left earlier, we would have then been tormented by the question of whether we should have stayed, but having lost too much right now is definitely worse, with the last hour having been a grueling experience. What’s worse, we can’t really say why we have stayed too long and so we are likely to repeat the same mistake when next time we inevitably show up at the table.

It is crucial to be able to stay or leave based on a logical analysis of the situation, not an emotional impulse. If logically you have matters to attend to – liking picking up your wife and kids or attending work – you must be able to leave immediately. Sometimes a desperate hope for by now certainly imminent better luck is so strong that you miss dates and business appointments. But, the longer you stay overdue, the worse you play, because you know you are supposed to be elsewhere and that possibly your are ruining your life and career.

If poker is supposed to be entertainment but you are not enjoying it – this is a good reason to leave early, before the game becomes a tangle nightmare of bad moves and worse moods. You often see player who take up poker as recreation, but when a game gets too much for them, they cannot leave, and yet they cannot play. They stay out of some sort of perverse compulsion to prolong their torment, not willing to walk out losers. They stay and become greater losers with every losing new hand, instead of accepting good-naturedly accepting the situation – which is merely pastime anyway – and leaving the table, remaining in a good mood, and perhaps trying another game later at another table.

To locate the source of the problem, it is crucial to realize that the problem does not really have anything to do with the game itself. If in spite of yourself you persist in a pointless and counterproductive activity you do not enjoy, it must be because you are avoiding something. If poker is not the reason you stay at the table time and time again, yet you don’t know why you are staying, it must be that you are avoiding something unconnected with the game.

In this case, whatever it is that you are avoiding, it is likely that it manifests itself in other activities as well. Shifting your focus may help to realize the source of the original problem. Rather than stupidly pondering why you have again stayed that fatal extra hour half-playing a doomed game, try to observe yourself in your other activities. You may discover that things which seemed completely unrelated to your poker plight have surprising connections to your inability to leave the game in time.

It may be anything really, from dissatisfaction with your work or career to a general inability to deal with loss. Once you discover the connection, it will be easier to decide how to stop playing poker.

Poker: How to Improve Your Game

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

If you wish to improve your game, ditch the arrogance and ego involvement, and don’t depend on the constant repetition of a few rules you learned to get you safely by.  The basic step to improvement is to recognize the need for it.  Introspection is at the core of every good player as much as technique, luck or insight into their opponents’ minds.  Perfectionism is not the answer.  The answer lies in the ability to be self-critical and correctly and precisely define your strengths and weaknesses.

Other than arrogant amateurs and those that play by rote, there are some players of talent who find that the skills they have will do them just fine.  They will not improve because they do not see the need for it.  These players lack inspiration and place their hopes on a few brilliant moves and lady luck to capture a few wins.

Neglecting weaknesses and relying on a few strong points is perilous behavior for a poker player.  Opponents aren’t all nitwits and can zero in on the fact that you constantly make the same moves, although successfully, and can figure out a way to get around them.  They will eventually surprise you with one large move against you.  Such players have paid attention to more facets of the game and have improved their skills.  They have confidence in the variety of moves they make.

There are no successful one-armed boxers.  There are no successful poker players with just one or two moves.  A good player is at work to constantly sharpen all his poker skills.  At the same time he recognizes his weak points and works at overcoming them, no matter difficult that may be.

The first step to enlightenment is to understand that the game isn’t worth playing if you don’t play to win.  Secondly, improvement is based on acquiring the discipline to form a habit of undertaking tasks you would rather not do.  This is not a mechanical exercise, you must understand why it is you are doing it, otherwise you will give up.  Following a routine without knowing why and relying on only one or two skills in the hope that the stuff you don’t like will just go away, is not realistic and not playing an engaging game of poker.

Get a vision in your mind of what it would like to be a totally competent player, the rush you get when inspired, the thrill of winning, then you can decide for yourself whether this is a feeling worth pursuing or not.  If the imagination to perceive this is lacking or if you do perceive it but find it not worth the battle, you need to be honest with yourself and admit that you haven’t a clue how to be successful at poker.  Maybe you don’t even want to be.  On the other hand if this vision inspires passion, begin the hard work it requires to see successful results.  Just possibly, the energy required to force yourself to work on things you don’t want to work on will give you the confidence you have been seeking.  This is rewarding all by itself.

Attract More Poker Fish With a More Amiable Poker Game

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

Those serious, arrogant poker professionals gathered around the table in big shades and hooded sweatshirts are out for blood.  They are not attracting amiable amateurs, they are attracting expert players who are the only ones who are not intimidated by their demeanor.  This may be good for TV’s World of Poker, but certainly not for the good players who want to pick up a few bucks.

The average amateur is looking to join in a poker game for some fun and is not really concerned whether he wins or loses.  He’s looking for a way to spend some time with people, a chance to get away from the office routine, or to play with real people instead of online.  He’s going to zero in on a table where everyone seems friendly, relaxed and having a good time.  He is not looking for skilled poker players, just those who enjoy the game and each other’s company.

To the players who want to constantly earn an actual income at the table, these guys are a godsend.  An individual player will probably not lose a lot, but will do so consistently.  If the pro wants some dough he has come to the right place.  These good ol’ boys seeking fun will stay longer, place riskier bets and lose more when they are having fun.

The table where no one looks at anyone else, where no conversation is going on, and everyone is pretty much disguised so no faces can be seen, is keeping the amateurs away in droves.

Conversely, the table with conversation and laughter where everyone is complimenting each other on their “great play” will attract the amateurs.  The amateur sees this behavior as trustworthy and will keep coming back for more.  They will lose all right, but they will do so with such a fine disposition, having received entertainment value instead of money.

By keeping the weaker opponents in a fun loving mood, you will keep up their poker hopes.  They must be good, they are having such a good time.  Luck, being the fickle lady that she is, is sure to fall on them some times.  The relaxed ambience of this table will attract more amateurs, making it a golden opportunity for the player looking for serious money.

True poker professionals have not just honed their poker skills and technique, they have also created an public persona and the ability to use this persona to strategically manipulate the game.  They create an attractive, relaxed, trusting environment for the unsuspecting good time boys.  The suckers will happily lose a little and be thankful to you for entertaining them so well.

An Introduction to Rakeback

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Rakeback is a term that many on-line poker players are not familiar with. These are the fees that a person pays for each pot that is played on a poker game. A person playing poker for several hours per day, or playing several tables, can spend a lot of money on the rake of the games they play.

When a player enters a game they usually pay around 5% on the pot in rakeback. The cap for most of the on-line poker sites is three dollars. The fees can rake up fast when a person is playing multiple games. This is where the term “rakeback” originated.

An on-line poker site may figure the rake based on the amount of the pot and the number of people sitting at a table. Other sites figure the rake based on the actual people playing the game and the total pot. The amount that is paid is about the same with either type of calculation.

Participating in a rakeback plan, a player can get some of the pot fee back. Rakeback websites receive from 35-45% of the rake from on-poker sites. A player registered with the site receives a percentage of the money that has been collected from these sites.

Rakeback websites work with different on-line poker sites and they show a list of the participating on-line poker sites. The rakeback site will also show the percentage of rake that a poker site is paying, any promotions or tournaments that are being held on the site, and other money that may be available to players on that site.

Some on-line poker sites offer bonuses to people who play at their tables. The bonuses are provided when a person deposits money to play. Some of these bonuses match the deposit to a maximum. When a player puts more money in than the maximum bonus, the bonus is automatically paid.

There are many incentives offered when one registers with a rakeback website. Some of these sites only work with on-line poker sites offering rakeback and bonuses through the site. An individual playing poker on one of these sites will receive rakeback from the on-line poker site and rakeback from the rakeback website. Working with a rakeback website offers one the advantage of finding the highest paying on-line poker sites that offer maximum earning potential.

Rakeback is a great way for an individual to accumulate money that they may not have known was available. For poker players who spend time playing multiple tables each day, a rakeback plan can give them money back on each game they play whether they win or lose. By doing the necessary research to find a rakeback website that works closely with their on-line poker partners one can increase earnings significantly.
